REMARKS ON MOTHER TERESA

34. (SOCIAL-34)

REMARKS ON MOTHER TERESA

A statement on Mother Teresa by the RSS chief Mohan Rao Bhagwat has led to a nationwide controversy. Speaking at an RSS programme, Mohan Bhagwat said that Mother Teresa's caring for the poor and the sick had religious motives and the conversion was the main intention. People on the other side strongly criticized his remarks on Mother Tressa asking him to withdraw it.

However, it is not the first time that Mother Teresa's works are being questioned or criticized.'Mother Teresa faced several controversies even during her own lifetime. These included 'her rather dubious way of caring for the sick, her questionable political contacts, her suspicious management of the enormous sums of money she received, and her overly dogmatic views regarding, in particular, abortion, contraception, and divorce. She was questioned by many including the several Western scholars including some Roman catholics as per previous Media reports. Christopher Hitchens and others have said similar things ages back and questioned the Saintly image of her.

However, her critics also admit that Mother Teresa was genuinely engaged in the service of the poorest of the poor and terminally ill patients and lepers.

As per some of RSS "He was asked a question and he responded. He did not say anything bad". However It will be suicidal for any Indian politician to criticize Mother Teresa. If Bhagwat is really interested in the success of Modi's government, it is better he does not get into this controversy at this time.

DELHI PUNISHES, BUT IT ALSO FORGIVES.

33.  (SOCIAL-33)

DELHI PUNISHES,

BUT IT ALSO FORGIVES.

Tsunami of Arvind Kejriwal's AAP sweep away the  traditional parties in Delhi Assembly elections. BJP down to single digit.Congress got big zero. Aam Admi Party which is the force of Non BJP, Non Congress break the history in Delhi. This victory of Democracy reflects Arvind's strong positioning as a "change agent" and his India against corruption movement put a break on the Modi juggernaut. Delhi Assembly elections impact on rest of India.

Anna Hazare congratulated Arvind for his landslide victory and advised 'don't repeat 2013 mistakes. Arvind Kejriwal had courted controversy within weeks of becoming Chief Minister by sitting on a dharna in the heart of Delhi near Parliament House over his demand for suspending three police officers for allegedly not acting against criminals. He had also come under attack on the governance agenda. He tendered an apology to the Delhi voters claiming that he had made a mistake and not any crime by resigning in 49 days. What was considered his biggest handicap soon became his most potent weapon. Delhi gave him another chance to rule Delhi.Delhi punishes but forgives. With stories of how corruption had come down during his brief rule, the Delhi voter flocked to AAP as the party gathered strength.

Soft-spoken but a man with strong conviction, the Ramon Magsaysay award winner was part of the Team Anna, along with first woman IPS officer Kiran Bedi, lawyer Prashant Bhushan and others. He was the civil society representative member of the committee constituted by the Government to draft the Jan Lokpal bill, following the campaign for introduction of the anti-graft legislation. His efforts in the enactment of the RTI Act to empower the poorest citizens of India won him the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership in 2006. In February 2006, after resigning as Joint Commissioner in the Income Tax Department he became a full-time activist and started an NGO, Public Cause Research Foundation, with his award money as a corpus fund.

Delhi is not a state but has a Legislative Assembly. Which has very little powers. Delhities demanding for Full statehood for them. Delhi is a city which is a media hub, therefore intensely scrutinizing of those in government. It is a city which has over the last 25 years developed a radical bone, its middle and upper classes quick to take to streets to register their protest. It is also the city where the BJP has failed to win a state election five times in a row.

In Delhi, the baniyas are a very significant voter community. The BJP lost the banyan vote in Delhi to AAP. The last time AAP won the Delhi elections, it rode the wave of the aggrieved. Another one is the huge number of central government staffers, Middle class families, working staff, Small traders and youth all voted for AAP. Modi’s worst enemies are inside his party. The Opposition counts for nothing.

This election wasn't billed as a referendum on the communal ism-secularism debate, but fears about BJP's polarization tactics became campaign subtext in Delhi. The middle and upper classes became alarmed by the slew of issues the Sangh leaders began pulling out from the pockets of their khaki shorts. Love jihad, ghar wapsi, the controversy around Aligarh Muslim University, the intemperate remarks of BJP MP's, antediluvian prescriptions for women reeking of patriarchy - it just seemed the Hindutva hotheads weren't willing to hit the pause button.he party never came up with a positive agenda believing that it was on a roll and would win Delhi easily riding on the Narendra Modi wave.Their series of questions to Kejriwal and negative campaign also worked in AAP's favor and the BJP itself had no answer how they would solve Delhi's problems.

The Aam Aadmi Party has swept the Delhi elections, and the principal reason for that lies within the BJP, not in any AAP promises or hopes it generated. BJP failed to nip the opposition in the bud. Now it is time to damage control aggressively. BJP should know the mood of the Nation. Delhi is a clear unambiguous feedback to Modi. Time is still not lost. At the same time excessive expectations before AAP. Arvind Kejriwal fall can be greater if he does not meet the greatest of great expectations.

IS THERE ANY END --HOW TO CONTROLE?

IS THERE ANY END --

HOW TO CONTROLE?

Nine men gangraped and brutalized a 28-year-old mentally-challenged Nepalese woman  in  Rohtak district Haryana state nearer to Delhi capital of India. The woman had came from Nepal  three months ago and was staying with her sister at Rohtak while being treated at a hospital. Her sister  had reported her missing. The police did not take it seriously. If they had acted promptly she would have been alive.

The mutilated body of the victim, who belonged to Nepal's Vardia district  was found without key organs on Wednesday along with sticks, stones and condoms stuffed into her private parts three days after she went missing. The Rohtak woman's body was decomposing when autopsy was conducted on it Doctors took five hours to conduct the autopsy..

PGIMS's forensic medicines department head Dr S K Dhatterwal said two stones were inserted into the slain woman's anus. "Her face was eaten by animals, her lungs and heart were found missing. Also her skull had fractured and there were injury marks on both her thighs and chest," "There was a 16cm long and 4cm wide stick-like article in her vagina. We presume that a longer stick was used and it may have broken inside her. We also found a number of condoms in her vagina," The injuries suggest she was hit on the head with a heavy object, became partly unconscious and was then gang-raped," Dr S K Dhatterwal said.

A case under various sections of IPC, including murder, rape and unnatural sexual act and destruction of evidence has been registered against unknown people and today eight men arrested today and one was committed suicide. According to police. they had confessed to gang-raping and killing her.

When the end to the negligence of the Police?  When the Brutality ends in the society?

When the Women walks in the streets fearlessly?

Is there any need to amend existing laws  to speed up trails and punishment? How to control ?

Social responsibility will only solve the problem. Be act and respond.

PRAISED ASSET OF INDIA- AGNI-5.

 31. (SOCIAL-31)

PRAISED ASSET OF INDIA- AGNI-5.

Marking another milestone in the country’s deterrence capability,  India on Saturday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed, intercontinental surface-to-surface nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-5, which has a strike range of over 5000 kms and can carry a nuclear warhead of over one tonne, from Wheeler's Island off Odisha coast.

Saturday's launch was the third developmental trial of the long range missile. The first test was conducted on 19 April, 2012 and the second test on 15 September, 2013 from the same base.

India has at present in its armoury of Agni series, Agni-1 with 700 km range, Agni-2 with 2000 km range, Agni-3 and Agni-4 with 2500 km to more than 3500 range. After a few more trials, Agni-5 will be inducted into the services.

Unlike other missiles of Agni series, the latest one 'AGNI-5', is most advanced having some new technologies incorporated with it in terms of navigation and guidance, warhead and engine,

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed scientists for the successful test-firing of ‘Agni V’ and said the missile is a prized asset for the country’s forces. Modi tweeted  "I salute our scientists for their efforts"

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also lauded the efforts of scientists and engineers in successful test-firing of Agni-V, a nuclear-capable missile.

The outgoing Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Avinash Chandler assured the country that the missile was now in a "deliverable configuration" and said "I am going, leaving behind a dynamic young team that can lead India to greater heights. India will now be autonomous in missile capability,"Avinash Chander was removed as Chief of India's defence Research Organisation on Tuesday.

Congratulating team Agni, Air Chief Marshal Anup Raha, who had witnessed the entire launch operations from the control room, called it “a great achievement”.

The success of this test has sent out a signal worldwide about the sofistigation on Indian missile capability in terms of reliability, survivability and accuracy.

I wish the entire DRDO community a great future

CONSTITUTIONAL RELEVENCE OF SHARIAT COURTS IN INDIA.

  30. (SOCIAL-30)

CONSTITUTIONAL RELEVENCE OF SHARIAT COURTS IN INDIA.

"The FATWA has no place in Independent INDIA and can't be used to punish innocent"  the Supreme Court on Monday 7th July ruled. "A Shariat court, issuing fatwa and order against a person who is not before it, has no sanction of law and has no legal status. But if people still want to approach these courts, it's their will," The apex court said that "Islamic judges, who interpret religious law, could only rule when individuals submitted voluntarily to them and their decisions, or fatwas, were not legally binding.  Some fatwas may be wise and may be for general good also. People in this country are wise enough. If two Muslims agree for mediation, who can stay it? It is a blend of arbitration and mediation, but it is not binding on anyone including the person who had asked for it"

The petitioner a Delhi based lawyer, Vishwa Lochan Madan filed a petition in 2005, challenging the legality of parallel courts run by institutions like the Darul Qaza and Darul-Ifta and cited a case in which a woman was told to leave her husband and children and live with her father-in-law who had raped her. The petitioner had argued that Shariat courts are illegal and operated as parallel courts in the country deciding on religious and social freedoms of Muslim citizens, and that fundamental rights of Muslims cannot be controlled and curtailed by fatwas issued by Qazis and Muftis appointed by Muslim organizations.

While reserving the verdict in February this year, the Supreme Court observed that it cannot interfere with fatwas or religious decrees issued by Muslim clerics, "These are political-religious issues. We can't decide them. In this country some people believe Gangajal can cure all ailments. It is a matter of belief." No religion is allowed to curb anyone's fundamental rights" the top court also added.

All India Personal Law Board had earlier submitted that fatwas were not binding on people and it was just an opinion of a mufti or a cleric and he has no power and authority to implement it. if fatwas affect fundamental rights, one can approach the court. The then UPA government had told the court that it will not interfere with the Muslim personal law unless it affects the fundamental rights of individuals.

The verdict over the Constitutional relevance of the Shariat courts in the country is likely to trigger a debate in Muslim personal Law and the necessity of having a common Civil Code and have a direct bearing  on the operation of Khap panchayats and similar institutions that issue contentious diktats.

SALUTE TO THE ISRO SCIENTISTS AND STAFF MEMBERS.

  29. (SOCIAL-29)

SALUTE TO THE ISRO SCIENTISTS AND STAFF MEMBERS.

Filled with pride over PSLV-C23 successful launch in Satish Dhavan Space Centre at Srihari Kota Narendra Modi Prime Minister of India said "Congratulations to our brilliant Space Scientists for yet another successful launch of the Polar Satellite. India's Space programme is driven by a vision of service to humanity, not for a desire of power. Technology is central to Development. It touches one and all and it  is important  instrument of our national progress"  He proposed Scientists of ISRO to develop SAARC Satellite. Really appreciate the action of our Prime Minister attended the launch site because this will encourage the Scientists to put in to that extra for the recognition that they got by having the PM among themselves and not just a note from PMO. Such small actions are huge moral  boosters. Events like these fill the hearts of 125 crore Indians with immeasurably joy and make us all immensely proud.

We appreciate all the Scientists and Staff members of PSLV launch team for their determination  and hard work to make the PSLV-C23 a successful which sent five international satellites into orbit: the(1). French earth-observation Spot-7 satellite, (2).Aisat from Germany, (3).NLS7-1 and (4).NLS7-2 from Canada, and (5).Velox-1 of Singapore. .The five satellites were launched under commercial arrangements that ANTRIX (ISRO's commercial arm) entered into with the respective foreign agencies. Great job done to place Five Satellite in the Space in single launch.

ISRO has so far launched 35 satellites from 19 countries around the globe -- Algeria, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Singapore, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey and United Kingdom, bringing a huge sum to the country as foreign exchange. Now India has undertaken successful upgrading of its PSLV program to GSLV program. This will enable it to launch much heavier Satellites into much higher orbits with the help of powerful Rockets using cryogenic engines. Several launches have been successful. Everyone is likely to forget the Russian Contribution in some of the Rocket Technologies of our Space program.India's Mars rocket or Mangalyaan is expected to reach the red planet on September 24,2014.

Our scientists have shown the world, a new paradigm of Frugal Engineering, and the power of Imagination. Salute to the ISRO Scientists and Staff members.

POLAVARAM PROJECT ----HOPE ALL IS WELL..

28. (SOCIAL-28)

Polavaram Project is a multipurpose irrigation project which has been accorded national project status by the then UPA Central government. National river linking project which works under the aegis of the Indian Ministry of Water Resources was designed to overcome the deficit in water in the country.  As a part of this plan the Godavari River basin is considered as a surplus one, while the Krishna River basin is considered to be a deficit one. Based on the estimated water requirements in 2025, the study recommended that seizable surplus water was to be transferred from the Godavari basin to the Krishna River basin.

In 1980, the Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh Tanguturi Anjaiah laid the foundation stone for the project stayed idle until 2004 when Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy led government came to power. In 2004 the government sanctioned and soon after tenders were issued for the commensurate worth of services for the Right and Left canals. When the project was taken up in 2004, the old finalized designs at Polavaram site are adopted without reexamining the latest cost of alternate site. The alternative site located in gorge stretch is still worth of reexamination.to reduce the ever increasing cost of Polavaram Dam. The Dam could not be taken up for construction during the last century on techno economical grounds. The united Andhra Pradesh government secured the environmental clearances from the center in 2005.

Despite this clearance, the project faced political road blocks.  Meanwhile work on the project began and Excavation work on canals and spillway work almost completed and work was halted for want of clearance from the Ministry of Forest and Environment. Orissa and Chattisgarh have filed a petition in Supreme Court of India against the project which submerges large areas of the state and A.P government of going ahead with the project without the necessary permissions and also alleges that public hearing  in the effected areas for not held. After formation of new Telangana state a bandh call was given by the Telangana Raashtra Samithi which was going to take the power in the state protesting against the ordinance promulgated by the President of India. The controversy surrounding Bhadrachalam sub-division in Khammam district which consists of villages that will be submerged has triggered controversy against the back drop of Union Cabinet NOD to transfer 130 villages to Seemandhra. This was happen because of Seemandhra lobbying according to  average Telangana people and they believe this is loss for them.

Some are asking about the position of the Tribal who are in submerged 9 Mandals of Khammam district. They are in fear of Tribal rights along with their culture, implementation of Schedule area Acts and forest assets relating with their life. They are demanding for Self Rule Autonomous Counsels for their bright future. They are not interested to leave the  forest life.

Is Polavaram project really the dispute between the Seemandhra and Telangana states only?

Is it not the Human Rights problem of the Tribal  in Khammam district?

Is there really an alternative change of design to satisfy the Seemandhra and Telangana too?

Can we do anything without displace thousands of Tribal families, without submerge several Archaeological sites, Coal deposits, a wild life sanctuary and several hectors of farm land?

It is the proper time to discuss and find a solution to the Polavaram Dam dispute for the development and cordial relations between the Seemandhra and Telangana states.

                                                Hope all is well.

UNLUCKY MINUTES OF ENGINEERING STUDENTS.

27. (SOCIAL-27)

On the evening of June 8, at least 24 students, including six girls, from the Hyderabad-Telangana based VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology were feared washed away by strong currents in the Beas near Thalot village in Mandi district of the Himachal Pradesh state, when a large quantity of water was allegedly released from the dam’s reservoir. Nearly 60 students on their way from Shimla to Manali had stopped near Thalot to walk to the River bank to take pictures with the Beas. However things went array when a sudden flow of water from the reservoir washed them away with in unlucky 24 minutes. The students were thrown into the middle of the river. While some managed to reach the bank, others were swept away. Some students were drowned while trying to save others, the students escaped from the tragedy said. It is not only the loss to the parents of deceased students, but to the Nation as well. Every child/young man is the hope of the Nation.

Largi Electric Project authorities gave no sirens or hooters were not sounded to announce the release of water, the students escaped from the tragedy claimed. Where as the exact reason for the sudden release of water is still not known. Sources said Excess water is never discharged in the evening. The information on the current water level in the reservoir and how much water  particular water is released in the day is not available in the public domain. Water is released without prior warning, lives are lost. No one is punished for wrong operation before any time in previous incidents. For the time being , an FIR has been registered and the entire staff at the Largi Dam were suspended

This not the first time in the Indian history the people have been killed due to sudden release of water. In the year 2005, due to sudden release of water from the Narmada Sagar Project in Madhya Pradesh Dam's reservoir swept away 150 pilgrims  Such incidents of reservoir mismanagement have taken place in other states as well, such as Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu, but no responsibility was fixed and no one was held accountable. In 2011, a petition was filed in the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) blaming mismanagement of Hirakud Dam’s reservoir for the extreme floods in the state in September that year. The NHRC had even issued show-cause notice to the Odisha government. In this Manali tragedy,Himachal Pradesh High Court has taken SUO MOTU cognizance of the project authorities " Grave Negligence" and has given the state seven days to file a status report.

Telangana state and the Central Government had responded to this tragedy immediately to take proper measures. Telangana state send a Minister's high level delegation to give assistance to the victims and their families and to co-ordinate rescue operations. Himachal Govt ordered to probe in to the tragedy.  Massive search operations along the bank of river Beas taken up with the help of Central National Disaster Management Rescue Forces and different wings of local Administration. Rescue workers have recovered five bodied so far, while 19 others still missing. The chances of their survival are slim because of Cold and Silt in the water. Worried parents and jittery in HP are keeping their figures crossed, hoping rescuers  will find the survivals. We can only wish to give strength to the family members and bodies should be recovered as early as possible to perform the last rights by their family members and friends and well wishers.

There should be some sort of Check posts  for giving instructions and information about the Tourist spots and cautions/precautions to be taken in the tours to the  the outside visitors.

Accountability has to be fixed and known to everyone. So that such incident does not repeat.

May their souls rest in peace. My prayers are with the departed souls and their family.

THE PICTURE OF GANGES RIVER.

           26. (SOCIAL-26)

The Ganges is the most sacred river to Hindus. It is worshiped as Goddess Ganga in Hinduism. Ganges which is the life line of millions of people and great religious significance is being polluted by both Domestic sewage and Industrial pollutants that are being dumped in to the river untreated.  In Varanasi rivers "Varuna" and "Asi" have been polluted beyond recognition that now they flow not rivers but just torrents sewage and waste water mixing at the start and end of the city Varanasi. The Ganga action plan launched in 1986 by the Govt of India achieved any success despite expenditure of over Five billion rupees. This has been a major failure due to Corruption, lack of technical expertise good environmental planning and support from religious authorities.

River Bhagirathi and river Alakananda originate in Garhwal Himalayas and join at Devaprayaga to form river Ganga. River Ganga travels through Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal there after enters Bangladesh and finally drains in to the Bay of Bengal. The important tributaries of Ganga are the Yamuna, the Kali, the Ramganga, the Garhwal, the Gandak, the Kosi and the Sone. The river Yamuna although a tributary of Ganga, is a river basin in itself. Its major tributaries are Chambal, Sind, Betwa and Ken.

The Ganga basin is bound in the North by the Himalayas and in the South by the Vindhyas. Main stem of river Ganga houses a  population with high destiny. In absence of proper sanitation, abstraction of surface and ground water irrigation  and drinking purposes and partially treated domestic and industrial effluent turn Ganga  in to a polluted river in the stretch from Kannauj to Tri Ghat in the state of Uttar Pradesh and also makes the water of river Ganga unfit for even bathing purposes. Major urban centres generating substantial volume of sewage are Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur and Kolkata. The assessment of sewage and development of treatment capacity indicates that there should be reduced to improve water quality of river Ganga.

Major tributaries of river Ganga namely Ramganga and East Kali need immediate attention as they carry industrial and domestic pollution load of Uttarakhand and Uttara Pradesh. The river Ganga suffers myriad problems, most significant ones being the lean flow during the dry season. It would be advisable to create more water storage facility for Ganga riverine  system and release water in the lean period to effectively  maintain minimum  flow in the river.

There is immediate need firm environmental surveillance in order to check their compliance with environmental standards.

RISING CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN IN INDIA.

 25. (SOCIAL-25)

The United Nations issued a statement condemning the gang rape and murders and said "Violence against woman is a human rights issue, not a woman's issue. Violence against woman is preventable, not inevitable. The recent Badaun incident highlights the dangers women in India are exposed to due lack of Toilets".

The incident came close on the heels of the countrywide outrage over the gang rape and murder of two teenage cousins in UP's Badaun district. The girls, reported missing by their families on May 27 nights, were found hanging from a tree the next morning.  In this most recent case taken place in the state of Uttar Pradesh has been on poor policing and prejudice on Indian caste system. The police officers in the village and the alleged attackers are from a caste with higher status. The young girls always traveled in pairs when walking to the wheat fields near their village at night to relieve themselves before bed. The girls stopped on a small patch of land full of sharp, thorny bushes growing about a foot off the ground. They were then kidnapped.

Crime is happening in other states of India as well. Attacks often go unreported in media. Reported Rapes in India in 2013, 98% accused are parents, relatives and Neighbors. A report analyzed the rape figures in U.P that 90 % of victims were Dalits and 85% of victims were Dalit minors. The latest estimate suggests that new case of rape is reported every 20 minutes in India.

Murder and Rape are crimes punishable by death under Indian Law. Unfortunately  due to intimidation of witness and family members, survivors of Assaults and Rapes are also subjected to further attacks to prevent them giving evidence or force them to withdraw criminal complaints. Some are murdered.  Conviction rates at around 24% are considered to be relatively high. The Supreme Court on 5th August,2013 issued show cause notice to a senior officer in Madhya Pradesh  as to why criminal case be not lodged against him for disclosing the names of rape victims in his Affidavit, which is an offence under section 228 A of the Indian Penal Code.

There are notable incidents. In March, 2004, a 59 year old Australian woman raped and murdered. Software Engineer Nayana Pujari was raped and murdered by her escort driver in Pune in 2009. The gang rape of a 23 year old student (Nirbhaya Incident)on a public bus, on 16 Dec 2012, sparked large protests across the capital of Delhi. As a result of this incident the Government has promised speedy trails in cases of violations. It will improve the lighting of roads and public transport and there will be more police patrols to ensure the safety of the women. Yesterday a cold blooded murder was came in to light. A woman killed in front of her children for resisting rape in Meghalaya. Accused locked up her husband and five children inside the house and pulled out the woman. She was first assaulted and molested. When she resisted, they shot her with automatic assault rifles from point blank range blowing her head in almost two pieces. The murder took place inside National leader Sigma’s house compound in Raja Rongat village Which is the India-Bangladesh border.

Rising of incidents India shamed globally. India image is important, Women security is important. Needs better investigation methods; find the right guy, ways to preserve evidence. We don’t have proper witness protections programmed. Needs Reforms in Criminal justice system. why rapists are not that scared and victims reluctant to go to court.

How the rapes could be stopped, there was only one refrain attitude to women must change; the legal process of dealing with the crime must speed up; and men must be educated and ‘sensitized’ about women’s issues.

Society and Government must feel responsibility to prevent the crimes.
