Violence against minority Hindus in Bang

ladesh has sharply escalated since late 2025, with reports of killings, mob attacks, and blasphemy-related assaults. Rights groups documented over 2,900 violent incidents under the interim Yunus government.

Key Facts on Atrocities against Hindus

Killings: At least six Hindu men murdered in December 2025–January 2026, including journalist Rana Pratap Bairagi and grocery shop owner Sarat Chakraborty Mani.  

Blasphemy-linked attacks: 71 incidents between June–December 2025 where Hindu communities were targeted following blasphemy allegations.  

Sexual violence: Reports of assaults on Hindu women, adding to fear and insecurity.  

Election concerns: Ahead of the February 5, 2026 general election, rights groups warned minorities may not be able to vote freely due to escalating violence.  

Community protests: Hindu organizations like the Hindu Buddha Christian Oikya Perished reported 51 attacks in December 2025 alone.  

Causes behind the Violence

Political instability: Sheikh Hasina’s ouster created a power vacuum, with Islamist groups gaining influence.  

Targeting minorities: Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians are being scapegoated amid unrest.  

Weak governance: Interim government under Muhammad Yunus is struggling to control mob violence.

Border vigilance: Increasing security along the frontier to prevent spill over violence and refugee crises.  

Protecting Hindus in Bangladesh is not only a humanitarian priority but also a domestic political issue in India.  

If Dhaka fails to act, India may escalate pressure through trade restrictions or limited military posturing.  

The crisis strengthens India’s case for deeper alignment with democratic allies against China–Pakistan influence in Dhaka.
