Russia has carried out another large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv. The strike is the latest reminder that the war remains active despite diplomatic efforts and continuing international pressure.

What Happened?

Russia launched a combined attack using ballistic missiles and attack drones against Kyiv during the night. Ukrainian officials said the strikes caused casualties, damaged buildings, triggered fires and disrupted daily life. Rescue teams were deployed across several parts of the city as emergency services searched damaged sites. Reuters reported at least one death and more than 20 injuries, while local authorities also reported an ammonia leak linked to damage from the attack.

What Is a Ballistic Missile?

A ballistic missile travels high into the atmosphere before falling rapidly toward its target. Because it moves at very high speed during its final stage, it is much harder to intercept than many drones or slower cruise missiles.

Analysts also note that Ukraine faces shortages of advanced missile interceptors, making defence more challenging.
